Hoggard suffers 6-3 loss to NHHS

Cadman Styers rallied from a set down to earn a three-set victory at No. 6 singles, but Hoggard suffered a 6-3 loss to New Hanover on Thursday.

Styers lost the opening set to Clay Harris 6-2. The junior rallied to win the second set 6-4. On his fourth match point, Styers finally finished off the third-set tiebreaker 13-11.

The Vikings (6-3, 6-2 Mideastern) fared better in doubles, which were extremely tight. All three matches went to tiebreakers.

At No. 1, Chase Horton and Evan Linett got a critical late break and escaped with a 9-8(4) win. Styers teamed with Dillon Cook for a 9-8(7) at No. 3.

Miles Hirchak and Dom Scialabba trailed 7-3 before rattling off five straight games to take an 8-7 lead. New Hanover evened it up and ended up winning 9-8(5).
