Hoggard downs Laney, claims at least a share of conference title

Hoggard claimed its 10th consecutive victory and wrapped up at least a share of the Mideastern Conference title with an 8-1 win over Laney on Tuesday afternoon at the Jeff Holcomb Tennis Complex.
 
The Vikings (12-2, 10-1) swept all six singles matches. Chase Horton (No. 2), Evan Linett (No. 3), Matt Jensen (No. 4) and Dom Scialabba (No. 3) all eased to straight set wins. Senior captain Noah Milliken won 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 at No. 1 and Miles Hirchak survived a 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 battle at No. 5.
 
Linett and Jensen bumped to No. 1 doubles took care of Patrick Ryder and Shane McDonough 8-1 to avenge an earlier season loss.
 
Hoggard hosts Ashley on April 22. A victory over the Screaming Eagles would give the Vikings their first conference title since 2010.
