Solid doubles play lifts Hoggard past CFA

Hoggard took two of three doubles matches to earn a 5-4 win over previously unbeaten Cape Fear Academy on Wednesday afternoon at the Jeff Holcomb Tennis Complex.

The teams split singles matches, with the Vikings (10-2) getting wins from Chase Horton (No. 2), Evan Linett (No. 3) and Dom Scialabba (No. 6).

Linett and Scialabba both claimed three-set victories after winning the opening set and dropping the second.

In doubles, Linett and Matt Jensen made short work of Jack Gallop and Mike Mills 8-1 at No. 2. Scialabba and Miles Hirchak clinched the team victory with an 8-5 decision at No. 3.

Hoggard, which has won eight consecutive matches, will travel to Ashley at 4 p.m. Thursday.
