Hoggard earns historic win vs. Broughton

A doubles sweep lifted Hoggard to a 5-4 victory over perennial-power Broughton on Saturday morning at the Port City Invitational.
 
It was the Vikings' (2-1) first victory over the Capitals in program history. Broughton entered the match with a 6-0 lead in the series history.
 
The Caps won a pair of three-set matches to take a 4-2 lead after singles, but Hoggard stormed back to even the match with a pair of convincing doubles victories.
 
Matt Jensen and Evan Linett won 8-2 at No. 2 and Dillon Cook and Miles Hirchak evened the match with an 8-4 victory at No. 3.
 
The Vikings' top team of Noah Milliken and Chase Horton clinched the historical win with a dramatic 9-7 win. They trailed 7-6 before rallying to win the final three games.
 
Hoggard will travel to New Hanover for a Mideastern Conference matchup on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
