Vikings unable to handle CFA

     Hoggard was unable to overcome Cape Fear Academy in the home opener at the Holcomb Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
     The Hurricanes (1-0) won five of six singles matches. Most of the matches were highly contested. Jack Gallop won a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Craig Phelps at No. 5 singles.
     The Vikings (1-1) lone win came from freshman Chase Horton, who rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 victory at No. 3. Horton was down a set and 5-3 before rallying. Matt Johnson was in a tight battle at No. 2 before having to retire with a hip injury. He is expected to miss this weekend's Port City Invitational tournament.
     Horton and Noah Milliken teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
     Hoggard hosts Millbrook, the fourth-ranked team in the state, on Friday at 4:30.
