Hoggard beats New Hanover for third time

     Depth was the key again in Hoggard's 5-4 win over New Hanover in the third round of the playoffs.
     The Vikings (17-2) won at No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles to take a 4-2 lead after singles and the tandem of Chad Phelps and William Visser clinched the win with an easy 10-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
     The biggest win of the day came at No. 6, where Matt Johnson rebounded from a poor second set to beat David Cox 10-5 in a third-set tiebreaker.
     It was the third time Hoggard beat New Hanover 5-4 this season. The Vikings will now in the East final for a second consecutive season. They host Broughton at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 20.
