Vikings fall to defending state champs

Posted Friday, April 09, 2010 by Tim Hower

Hoggard put up a valiant effort against the top team in the state, but suffered a 6-4 loss to Millbrook on Friday, April 9.

Millbrook won last year’s meeting between the two teams 9-0 in the East finals. They went on to claim the state title.

Chad Phelps and William Visser picked up singles victories for the Vikings, who entered the day ranked No. 6 in the state.
The deficit was cut to 4-3 following an 8-4 win by Non Bunnag and Matt Johnson at No. 3 doubles. Phelps and Visser put up a great fight, but fell 8-6 at No. 2 and Will Kent and Philip Bonner lost a heartbreaker 9-8 at No. 1.
The loss snapped an eight-match winning streak for Hoggard, which hosts Greenville Rose on Tuesday, April 13 at 4 p.m.
